Rosemary & Co Red Dot Collection - Synthetic Spotter - Size 1

A Spotter is a specific brush shape that rewards painters who find it. Shorter and stubbier than a Pointed Round, with a proportionally fuller belly and a tip that delivers precision without the flex of a longer bristle, the result is a brush that places paint exactly where you want it, with less amplification of the natural movement of your hand.

The Red Dot Spotter uses the same proprietary synthetic fibre as the rest of the Red Dot Collection, developed by Rosemary & Co to replicate sable performance without using any animal hair. The snap, point retention, and paint-carrying capacity are noticeably better than standard synthetic brushes, and the shorter bristle length of the spotter shape makes the most of those qualities at small scale.

For miniature painting the spotter finds its place in specific situations:

  • Eyes and facial features on 28mm figures, where a longer bristle can flex at the wrong moment
  • Small gems, studs, rivets, and raised details where a full belly helps load enough paint for clean coverage in one stroke
  • Retouching mistakes cleanly without disturbing surrounding paint
  • Fine freehand work and inscriptions where a short, firm tip gives more control than a longer one

The Red Dot Spotter is also 100% vegan and comes in at a lower price than the Series 93 Red Sable equivalent — making it the natural choice for painters who want the spotter shape without the natural hair price, or who prefer not to use animal products.

Many painters use both: Series 93 for the work that rewards a sable's finest qualities, Red Dot Spotter for everything else, and for brushes they're less protective of.

Good For: Eyes, fine details, retouching, raised details on 28mm and smaller scale models.

Brush Care: Rinse in clean water after use, reshape the point gently, store upright or horizontal. A quality brush cleaner or mild soap used occasionally will extend brush life significantly. The synthetic fibres are more resistant to solvent damage than natural hair, making the Red Dot Spotter a sound choice for oil washes and enamel work.
