Rosemary & Co Series 77 Pure Sable Short Flat Size 2

The Series 77 Short Flats (also known as "brights") allow a much sturdier brush with a stronger "snap" creating sharper edges and control. The natural characteristics of the Red Sable hair offer a good "belly", allowing a liquid holding capacity greater than synthetics. 

Where a pointed round like the Series 33 excels at fine detail and controlled lines, a flat brush is what you reach for when the task is coverage, control over edges, or working on flat surfaces quickly and cleanly.

Handmade in Yorkshire from Pure Red Sable hair, the Series 77 has a notably stiffer character than Rosemary & Co's pointed rounds. That stiffness is the point: it gives the brush a strong snap that returns it to shape after each stroke, allowing sharper, more controlled paint application across edges and flat areas. The short flat head keeps the brush responsive and easy to direct.

For miniature painting, flat brushes earn their place for tasks that a traditional round handles awkwardly:

• Edge highlighting on armour plates, vehicles, and geometric surfaces
• Basecoating large flat panels quickly and evenly
• Applying washes or glazes to defined flat areas without bleeding
• Stippling for textured effects on skin, stone, and rust
• Wet blending across broader surfaces where a round would struggle to cover the area

The Series 77 is a useful second brush to the Series 33 rather than a replacement for it, as the two cover different tasks. If your current toolkit is pointed rounds only, a flat will expand what you can do without significantly adding to the learning curve.

Brush Care: Rinse in clean water after use, reshape the flat head gently back to its original squared profile, store upright or horizontal. A quality brush cleaner used occasionally will extend brush life significantly.
