Rosemary & Co Brushes
Rosemary & Co have been making artist brushes by hand in Yorkshire since 1997. Their reputation rests on producing the same quality of Kolinsky sable, red sable, and specialist brushes as the major art supply brands — at significantly fairer prices. Every brush in our range is handmade in their Scarborough workshop.
We stock nine series covering Kolinsky sable, red sable, goat hair, and synthetic, from fine detail spotters through to dedicated drybrushing brushes. If you are not sure which series is right for you, the descriptions below will help you choose.
Series 33 — Kolinsky Sable Pointed Round
The brush Rosemary & Co built their reputation on, and the one they describe as the Rolls-Royce of brushes. Pure Kolinsky sable — the finest natural hair available for artist brushes — handmade in Yorkshire. Excellent point, strong spring, generous belly. The workhorse of the serious miniature painter's toolkit.
Featured size: Series 33 Size 0 — £7.35 — the sweet spot for most miniature painting tasks including faces, lining, layering, and fine freehand work.
Series 99 — Pure Red Sable Pointed Round
Red Sable sits a step below Kolinsky in the hierarchy of natural brush hairs, but a considerable step above synthetic. Good point retention, a pleasing spring, and a generous belly for paint and water capacity. The natural entry point into Rosemary's natural hair range — noticeably better performance than synthetic brushes at a lower price than the Series 33.

Model Dry Brush — Goat Hair Drybrush
A dedicated drybrush range developed specifically for miniature and model painters, made from finest quality goat hair packed tightly into the ferrule. The bristle density gives an unusual combination of softness and stiffness — more control over paint placement than most drybrushing brushes on the market. Available in five sizes from XS (2mm) to XL (13mm).

Series 77 — Pure Red Sable Short Flat
A short flat — also known as a bright — for edge highlighting, blocking in large flat panels, and applying washes to defined areas. The stiff, snappy character of red sable gives the Series 77 a clean, controlled stroke that a pointed round handles less naturally. A useful second brush alongside the Series 33 or Series 99.
Featured size: Series 77 Size 2 — £5.20 — practical for edge highlighting on armour plates and basecoating panel sections.
Series 93 — Pure Red Sable Spotter
A spotter has a shorter, stubbier head than a pointed round — the tip appears smaller at first glance, but the belly is proportionally fuller, giving the brush a large paint reservoir for a very precise point. Particularly useful for eyes and facial features on 28mm figures, small gem and stud effects, and retouching without disturbing surrounding paint.
Featured size: Series 93 Size 0 — £4.45 — the standard size for most miniature detail work.
Red Dot — Synthetic Pointed Round
Developed by Rosemary & Co in 2021 after years of research into synthetic fibre performance, the Red Dot uses a proprietary fibre that replicates the snap, point retention, and paint-carrying capacity of natural sable without using any animal hair. 100% vegan, handmade in Yorkshire, and in a different category from the cheap synthetics in starter sets. The natural choice for painters who prefer not to use natural hair, or who want Rosemary quality at a lower price point.
Featured size: Red Dot Pointed Round Size 0 — £2.55 — the workhorse size for all-round miniature painting.

Red Dot — Synthetic Short Flat
The same proprietary synthetic fibre as the Red Dot Pointed Round in a short flat head — for edge highlighting, panel basecoating, and stippling where a pointed round would give too soft an edge. Resistant to solvent damage, making it a sound choice for oil washes and enamel products. Complements the Red Dot Pointed Round for painters building a synthetic toolkit.

Red Dot — Synthetic Spotter
The Red Dot Spotter applies the proprietary synthetic fibre to the spotter shape — short, stubby head, full belly, precise tip. Well suited to eyes and facial detail on 28mm figures, object source lighting stipple work, and any task where a long-tipped pointed round flexes unpredictably. Solvent-resistant, 100% vegan.

Series 501 — Synthetic Stubby Round
A synthetic stubby round for stippling, drybrushing, and texture work — distinct from the Model Dry Brush in that its round ferrule makes it better suited to dabbing and stippling techniques rather than the sweeping stroke of a flat drybrush. Useful for stippled skin effects, object source lighting, rust and corrosion stippling, and pushing pigment powder into recesses. Stiff white nylon, 100% vegan.
Featured size: Series 501 Size 2 — £3.25 — the most versatile mid-size for stippling and texture work.
